Mantis makes it easy to create a bountiful garden, and a beautiful yard!  Whether you’re breaking new ground for a first-time garden, or getting an existing garden ready for planting, the Mantis Tiller will make it easy and fun!

Those hot summer months are here!!

July:

  • Water well, when watering your plants and vegetables, if there has not been enough rainfall.  Apply water directly to the soil and roots, avoiding the leaves if possible.  Be sure to check the soil moisture often, as some plants may require more than one drink a day.  Just remember…it’s best to water in the early mornings, or about an hour after sunset.
  • Trim your lawn regularly with the Mantis Reel Mower.  Remove only about 1/3 of the blade to ensure you are not doing more damage than good.  By doing so, you cause less stress on the blades and leave them less dried out.
  • Prune your shrubs after they have bloomed, and remove any dead branches.

August:

  • Continue watering the plants!  Thoroughly soak the soil to water less frequently.
  • Keep pulling those pesky weeds!  Keeping on top of them this year, will prevent more from coming up next year.
  • Enjoy your gardens fresh harvest!

September:

  • September is the prefect time for Aerating and/or Dethatching your lawn.  Try the Aerator/Dethatcher Combo attachment for your Mantis Tiller.
  • Plant trees, shrubs, and most importantly, start seeding your lawn with a variety of grass seeds.
  • Add fall colors to your landscape by planting an assortment of Mums.

Tips for Conserving Water

During the hot summer months, most parts of the country experience some degree of water shortage. It may only last a week or two, or it could last all summer!  Here are a few tips to help you conserve water in your garden:

  • Use a rain barrel A rain barrel is a perfect way to keep your flowers and plants well watered during times of water restrictions.  Collect rainwater using a rain barrel placed at the bottom of your down spouts.  Use the saved up water to fill your watering can.  Not to mention you will be saving on your water bill!
  • Plant native plants.  Native plants to your area will require far less maintenance because they are already adjusted to your climate.
  • Keep your garden weeded and cultivated Weeds waste water.  Make sure to pull the weeds as they appear, and cultivate a shallow layer of the soil with your Mantis Tiller.  By tilling too deep, it not only harms the roots, but causes moisture to evaporate more quickly.
  • Properly Mulch or use Compost on beds.  Mulch helps to keep the soil nice and moist and compost increases the soils ability to retain water.
